Tirso Moreno, Jr.
The first generation of Americans in his family, Tirso Moreno. Jr.’s experience with Homes In Partnership comes with many valuable lessons from his parents
Tirso was raised in a Homes In Partnership Home.
Son to migrant farm workers, Tirso’s parents emigrated from Mexico in search of work and a better life for their family. They worked very hard to provide for their children but like many families, found it difficult to purchase a home.
Twenty years ago, when racial lines were more distinct, it was difficult for those belonging to a minority race to purchase a home let alone have the means to do so. Fortunately, the Moreno’s saw Homes In Partnership homes under construction and were able to qualify for a home of their own.
The youngest of five children, Tirso was fortunate to have been raised in their new home. “My sisters always told me how lucky I was,” he recalls. “I had a yard to play in and a warm bed to sleep in. I guess I was really lucky. I’m so proud of my parents and all they did for us growing up.”
“In speaking with my father, he recalls the hours that he and my mother had to invest in building their home. He says it was the first thing their ever owned that give them pride. In fact, they still live there,” says Moreno.
Tirso hopes to buy his own Homes In Partnership home in the next year. He also plans to continue his college education and aspires to be the second in his family to earn a college degree.
