Green Building in Affordable Housing
We here at Homes In Partnership, Inc. (HIP) are dedicated to utilizing the safest and most cost-effective building standards. All homes are built using the latest construction methods and materials which comply with stringent hurricane guidelines. The homes are also designed to be “green”, meaning they are energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly. By building “green”, HIP is able to pass along many additional benefits to homeowners.
Through a cooperative effort with Progress Energy, HIP is committed to building Energy Star homes. These homes are twenty to thirty percent more energy-efficient, creating immediate and long-term savings for homeowners.
HIP was recently awarded a grant through the ‘Green Communities Initiative’ from Enterprise Community Partners. This grant will assist in covering some of the costs associated with incorporating further green building techniques into homes.
HIP continues to expand its knowledge of energy-efficient, healthy home building techniques in order to pass that knowledge on. Homeowners are currently educated about post-purchase maintenance for their homes, and HIP is in the process of incorporating education about green building features as well. This will enable families to maintain their healthy, energy-efficient homes long after the construction process has been completed.
