Carol Johnson
The story of Carol Johnson begins in 1984. Mother to a 10 year old daughter and recent graduate from the University of Central Florida, Carol was looking to establish a life for her and her family.
Homes In Partnership gave Carol that opportunity.
Carol and her daughter both worked weekends to do what they could to assist in the building of their new home in Zellwood. Whether it was clearing debris or sweeping floors, they happily helped. “I’ll admit that I was nervous at first but I gained a real sense of pride and accomplishment working on my own home,” says Johnson.
Johnson recalls the attentiveness and character of the Homes In Partnership program. “They were with me every step of the way, even after I moved in. In fact, they even called me to see how I was doing. They don’t just build affordable housing; they build subdivisions where people are proud to drive up to their home.”
Carol went on to live in that home for nearly 20 years, raising two children and earning a masters degree in Human Services Administration. She currently manages the John H. Bridges Community Center in Apopka supporting the community through a variety of programs and events.
“I still see all of the good things that Homes In Partnership is doing in the community,” says Johnson, “and I’m glad I was part of that.”
